News anchor Catherine Kasavuli has shared a touching story regarding her nephew and how he battled an addiction that nearly cost him everything in life.

As her nephew William Kasavuli turned a year older, the legendary TV presenter shared an inspiring story on how he battled alcohol addiction and mental problems two years ago.
Kasavuli revealed that in 2019, William could not survive without alcohol and ended up losing his well-paying pilot job, and around August 2020, he was in rehab.

“Wil has battled alcoholism, two years ago he couldn’t survive without being high on liquor, he lost his well paying pilot job due to mental instability and alcoholism, last year a time like this Wil was in rehab, all of us trying to have him back up,” she wrote.
The KBC news presenter added that this is why she cries when she sees people joking about mental health because she experienced it first hand.
“That’s why I keep on saying when I see someone joking with mental health, I just cry, coz I’ve witnessed 1 full year of instability, insanity, depression, recklessness through Wil,” she added.
A changed man
Kasavuli said her nephew is now a changed person, one year sober and doing the things he loves, including flying jets, creating music as a producer and even inspiring his peers on matters addiction.

The journalist was delighted that her nephew had allowed him to bake his birthday cake for the first time in a decade because he has always baked his cakes.
She shared lovely photos of the cake in her Instagram post and one of her nephew, adding that it meant a lot to her and her family.

Kasavuli condems Kamene Goro
A few weeks back, Kasavuli showed her disappointment towards Kiss FM’s radio host Kamene Goro’s joke on mental health.
As reported by TUKO.co.ke, Kamene made a pretty hurtful joke that touched on people suffering from mental problems, and many found it insensitive.
Reacting to Kamene’s post, Kasavuli went on her Twitter sharing a few tweets to voice her concerns.
The KBC news anchor said she cried when she saw the post adding mental health is nothing to joke about, and when it hits home, it hits different, something she has experienced.

She urged fans to use their platforms to raise awareness for mental awareness.
In a follow-up post, Kasavuli emphasised that she meant no matter the size of platform one has been blessed with, they should avoid making fun of mental health if they can not spread positive awareness.
