His Excellency (H.E.) Sheikh Mishaal bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani was born on 2 July 1972 to ruling family of Qatar; he is the first son and the eldest of His Highness (H.H.) The Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and his first wife Sheikha Mariam bint Muhammad Al Thani’s children.

When H.H. Sheikh Hamad became the Amir in 1995, he made H.E. Sheikh Mishaal the Crown Prince on 30 June 1995 and he remained in that position till 23 October 1996, when his half-brother H.E. Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani took over the role. While serving as the Crown Prince, H.E. Sheikh Mishaal worked within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and led Qatari missions to countries around the world.
H.E. Sheikh Mishaal has also been the Al Rayyan Sports Club’s Chairman, a member of Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club and, also, President of the Arab Equestrian Federation.

H.E. Sheikh Mishaal is an avid lover of animals. He and all members of his family own racehorses and are passionate about all things Equestrian and Equestrian sports.
He is an enthusiast of pigeon racing as well and has raced many pigeons to victory in various competitions.
