Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has said Murang’a senator Irungu Kang’ata will be fired from his plum position of Senate majority whip once the Building Bridge Initiative (BBI) passes.
Wambugu said this following Kang’ata’s public letter to President Uhuru Kenyatta in which he warned the head of state about the unpopularity of the handshake document in Central Kenya.
Taking to his Facebook, the outspoken MP said they will appoint the majority whip as the BBI pollster in the region so that he can give weekly updates on the popularity of the BBI in the region.
Ahmednasir claims Kang’ata’s BBI letter was edited for him: “Uhuru is looking for exit strategy”
This, he said, will go on until the document is passed after which the senator will not only be sacked as the BBI pollster but also from the Senate leadership.
“We will relieve him of that polling role; and that of Jubilee Majority Whip in Senate, because clearly he can’t be trusted to whip Senators to do what the Party Leader wants to done,” the MP said.
Wambugu also exuded confidence that 80% of Mt Kenya residents will support the BBI.
Kang’ata penned the candid letter to the head of state warning him that the BBI would flop in Central Kenya because his research had uncovered the opposition of the document in the region.
The Kieleweke allied legislator said the report is unpopular in the region because it is perceived to be Jubilee Party’s factional agenda which is only supported by Uhuru’s side.
He said the locals are opposed to the report due to the notion that it aims to expand the executive and increase the number of House members.

A day after it became public, Kang’ata confirmed the letter was authentic but explained someone he had copied the letter to leaked it to the press without his consent.
“Kindly though the letter dated 30th December is authentic, I didn’t give it to the media. Someone else who had been copied did and I apologise for that,” he said.
