Broderick Steven Harvey, we know him as Steve Harvey, was born on January 17, 1957 in Welch, West Virginia. His parents, Eloise and Jesse Harvey had a total of 5 children together. Jesse Harvey was a coal miner and died of black lung disease in 2000. Steve Harvey andhis family to Cleveland, OH, where he graduated from Glenville High School in 1974. Then he went on to later attend Kent State and West Virginia.

In his early 20’s Steve worked as an insurance salesman, a postman, and also had aspirations to be a professional boxer. He soon found out that stand up comedy was his calling, and had his first gig was in 1985. Steve has been in a total of 3 marriages, and he split from his first wife, Marcia, in 1994. During this time the majority of his paychecks were going home to the two children that he and Marcia shared.

This is when things became difficult for Steve Harvey. Since picking up stand up comedy, Steve Harvey’s income became dependent on that. In his first year of he made a $3000 off of being a comedian.
He was forced to live off of $50 a week. Steve Harvey found himself homeless, he was living out of his 1976 Ford Tempo, using an igloo cooler as a refrigerator. He would wash up in hotel bathrooms, gas stations or swimming pool showers. THIS IS WHEN HE HIT ROCK BOTTOM Steve Harvey was washing up in a hotel bathroom one day as usual, and he was forced to hide in the stall for hours before other guests left. “I sat down and started crying, but a voice said, ‘If you keep going, I’m going to take you places you’ve never been.’ It was like God said, ‘Don’t quit, you’re almost there,’ ” Harvey said. This “ugly” time as Steve would call it lasted for 3 years, and he had finally reached his breaking point. Soon after this incident in the bathroom Steve Harvey was called for a showtime at the Apollo. This changed his life.

Now Steve Harvey is not just a comedian, he is an author, hosting Family Feud, NBC Little Big Shots, and his own daytime talk show The Steve Harvey Show. He’s become a idol to many, his words are valued across the world. Impacting lives seems to come second nature to him, as he is able to connect with any and everyone. He prides himself in his ability to connect due to the fact he has been at every level. He’s been broke, he’s been told that he can’t do something, he’s also been successful. So sharing his testimony while giving wisdom to people has became his new calling, and I believe he is doing a great job at that!
