Kenyans on Saturday morning, July 15, wake up to the disturbing reports that veteran radio presenter Leonard Mambo Mbotela was dead.
The rumours which were shared by infamous blogger Cyprian Nyakundi claimed Mbotela had died in a road road accident.
The death hoax led to an outpouring of condolence messages on social media with thousands of Kenyans expressing their sadness and grief.

The veteran broadcaster, well known for his evergreen radio and TV show ‘Je Huu ni Ungwana’ on KBC, denied the rumours in a statement to the media.
Mbotela said he was alive and well and called on Kenyans to ignore the unfortunate reports about him.
The broadcaster said he had received calls from friends in UK and Germany concerned about the news.

Mbotela also made a phone call to KBC which was aired confirming he was still alive.
“I have received a lot of phone calls, with concerned friends and Kenyans inquiring about my health,
”I would like to confirm to KBC listeners, my fans, relatives, work colleagues, friends and my bosses that I, Leonard Mambo Mbotela, I am alive currently speaking to you on radio. I am alive; breathing as I would every other day. I am full of life. I thank God,” Mbotela said.
The radio legend also urged Kenyans to pray for him to live longer and said he had forgiven the person who spread the rumours of his death.
“I urge you to pray for me to live longer. I have never received as many calls as I have today. International media houses including Deutsche Welle (DW), the BBC all have called to ascertain the accuracy of the online reports,
”I am alive, I am well. I thank God. Kindly pray that I live longer. I am alive. I am alive. I am alive. I forgive the person who crafted and peddled the false report that I perished in a road accident; he does not know what he is doing. May God forgive him too,” he said.
Angry Kenyans expressed their disgust with the blogger and other Kenyans who shared the hoax.
Kenyans termed them as callous, cold and wicked for spreading such malicious news, that was bound to traumatise Mbotela, his family and friends.
